Stephen's first contact with UNIX was Version 6 on a PDP/11-40 in 1979. Since then, he has taught many hundreds of students and clients to use, configure and manage UNIX systems. Topics covered include system administration, network management, performance management, security, kernel internals, commands & utilities, and shell programming.  Versions of UNIX presented include Ultrix, Tru64/Digital UNIX, DG-UX, Solaris, and Fujitsu/ICL.

Stephen has also become recognised as an expert in TCP/IP networking, and has presented seminars on topics such as IP and the Internet, DNS name server configuration, and firewalls and network security.

Other courses taught include advanced courses in C and C++ programming for embedded systems, UNIX network programming, and using UNIX development tools.

Stephen also has extensive experience with configuring and troubleshooting related subsystems, such as NFS, NIS, NIS+, SNMP, SMTP mail services, printing services, DNS name servers, FTP servers, INETD configuration, TFTP, system accounting, X windows, and scripting languages such as KSH, PERL and AWK.
